Why Go Greek??
Sisterhood:
From the moment you become a new member, you are with sisters who truly care
for you. Sisters share a special bond through ritual and shared experiences
that is simply too strong to be put into words. When you need a helping hand,
it will be there. When good things come to you, others will share your happiness.
In sisterhood, you will have a home away from home—a place where no matter
the circumstances, you can always feel loved and welcome. These friends will
be your dearest and truest long after college days are over.
Sisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for
each other.
-Carol Saline, from "Sisters"
Service:
Organizations cannot exist for their own gain, or they would lose their sense
of usefulness. Service to the less fortunate is freely given within the sorority
system. Each sorority has numerous philanthropic projects throughout the school
year.
Leadership:
It is often said that you get out of an organization what
you put into it. Sorority life is no different. As self-run organizations, sororities
provide many chances to learn valuable skills for the future, including budget
planning, public speaking, and networking. Sorority members are given several
opportunities to develop their leadership skills through holding offices, serving
on committees, and attending leadership conferences. In Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha
members are able to hold offices from the very beginning of their membership
process. Sorority life teaches both cooperation and acceptance of responsibility
as part of leadership development.
Social:
Greek life provides one of the biggest social outlets on campus. All sororities
on Brenau's campus sponsor campus-wide socials, recruitment parties, formals,
and fraternity mixers throughout the year.
Scholarship:
Scholarship is what college is all about. Most sororities
have scholarship programs which help improve your study skills or provides you
with someone to study with. Generally, the sorority women's cumulative GPA is
higher than the all-women's average. Just recently the Brenau Greek System
received the Gamma Sigma Alpha award for the highest GPA of all Greek Systems
in the entire United States. We beat out large Universities such as Texas
Tech.
Why Go Greek at Brenau?:
Going Greek
at Brenau is a completely different experience than at large universities.
We have 6 different sororities in the National Panhellenic Conference(NPC):
Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Delta Delta, Phi Mu,
and Zeta Tau Alpha. We also have 2 sororities from National Pan-Hellenic Council
(NPHC): Alpha Kappa Alpha, inc. and Delta Sigma Theta. All 8 offer different
personalities and talents. During Recruitment you will be offered the
chance to get to know and visit all of the NPC sorority houses on campus.
Sisters get to live together in a separate house or hall on campus designated
for them. Almost 80% of women on campus are Greek and many events on campus
revolve around Greek Life. Going through recruitment helps you to meet
people and get acquainted on campus. Being Greek has enriched many lives
in many different ways, so give it a try and GO GREEK AT BRENAU!!!
